Automated cat weight measurements

So, now I have 2 cats and weight of both must be monitored. Lulu (6 months) needs more weight as she’s growing. In contrast, Natu, (2 years) should lose about 500 grams weight to be in the optimal weight.

In past I’ve used a paper bag and a luggage scale to measure weight of small cats. It’s also the easiest for Lulu. However, Natu is too big (6.6 kg) and strong character for that to work easily. I thought alternative options without any extra investments. I ended up to carry him while measuring our total weight and then subtract my own weight. The result was rather inaccurate due to two measurements with 0.1 kg accuracy.

The scale I have is Withings Body Composition Smart Scale. This week I noticed something weird in the Withings Health Mate mobile application:

I understood that Natu had measured himself 3 times. The scale does the measurement if the object weight is over 5 kg and object stays still in the center for a couple seconds. Scale left measurements unassigned because those were too different from weight of any known user (me).

I created a new user for Natu. Now all his future measurements are automatically assigned to him.

I hope he keeps sitting on the scale at least couple times a week to get nice automatic tracking of body weight. I already reinforced that behaviour with treats. Unfortunately body composition measurement doesn’t work with cats. 🤣
