Teddy needs no pants
It was year 1994 when boy got a primary school assignment to make a teddy bear with pants. Boy cut, sew, and filled teddy bear, but didn’t want to make pants. He said to teacher “it’s better without pants”. Teacher wasn’t happy and sent a letter to boys parents “your son refuses to make pants for teddy”. They had discussion at home, and boy had no other options but make pants in the next crafting lesson.
Today I am wondering why I didn’t want to make pants. Was I just lazy? Probably yes, but it’s not the whole story. However, I understand now that teacher’s point was to teach sewing. Optimal teddy was irrelevant.
I’m fan of functionalism. In everything, I like when there is enough, and nothing more. Simple is beautiful, but not necessarily practical. That’s why I don’t go to minimalism.
Later, in 2017 I was making a knife. At this time I found traditional Fennoscandinavian “Woman’s knife”. It is also known as “hostess knife” and “Viking knife”. No wooden handle, no sheath, just the core item. The design is not product of laziness, but there has been reasons behind. It was neither my laziness, because I voluntarily participated and paid for the opportunity to use all those blacksmith tools. 🙂
Conclusion: My teddy doesn’t need pants.
